• Vocabulary/"lexis" - words, expressions, idioms old and new

• Pronunciation

Learn about the UK today:

• Cultural and political trends
• Developments in education
• Youth culture

Reaffirm your love for literature in English:

• Novels/short stories – classics and contemporary
• Poetry

Fun stuff

• Anecdotes
• Jokes
• Social media posts/memes

Special features for CLIL teachers

CLIL teachers will have a separate session after the coffee break.

We will work with you on:

• Pronunciation/diction
• Classroom language, for example giving instructions clearly
• Subject-based work, based on the subjects taught by participants.

Your English level

The course is suitable for anyone whose English is intermediate+ (B1+ in CEFR terms).

We will divide participants as far as possible by level.

We do not provide a language test so you need to “self-certify” when you complete the registration form.

Afternoons, evenings and weekends

We organize afternoon activities every weekday. Four of these will be local while one will be an excursion by bus/train or coach to a place of interest in the local area (such as the famous New Forest – one of our National Parks)

Every Friday, there is a reception with drinks and nibbles. On Saturdays, there is a full-day excursion further afield. Note that we do not organize a London excursion. Sundays are free – you may wish to visit London, or another city such as Oxford (1 hour, 20 minutes on the train) or you can stay in Winchester and just chill!
