Why did Leon need to improve his English?

Leon wanted to study Optometry at a London university. He needed to achieve a score of 7 in his IELTS exam and wanted to gain some relevant work experience to prove his interest.

When did he come?

Summer - for four weeks - in Winchester

What was his schedule?

am: Leon did 4 hours formal 1:1 English tuition every morning with a tutor who came to his house. The lessons were geared towards the IELTS exam.
pm: Leon did 3 hours work experience at a Winchester Opticians every afternoon. He lived with a friendly, educated English couple who have two teenage daughters who like to chat - so that helped his English fluency too!

Leon's view:

"I needed to improve my English and demonstrate my interest in eye medicine in order to get to study optometry at a London university. This work experience programme was my chance to do both. I had a nice English family that I am still friends with. I got a good IELTS result and I'm hoping to study Optometry at City University, London. I can't wait!"
